Time of Travel : 18-19th February
Where: Pawna Lake, 4 hours from Mumbai City, India.
Camp : Booked online on Get Set Camp at Pawna Lake. Average. Could definitely do better.
Weather - Hot in the Day and Cold in the night.
We booked an Ola Outstation cab from Mumbai. maybe a rip off. it was some 4000 odd Rs. one way. It was a 4 hour drive from Mumbai city. There was no signage or post of the campsite. Though if you stop exactly where google maps shows to stop, it is the right place. They could have provided a signage though!
There are tents of various sizes which accommodates 2 people, 3 people, 4 people and even larger groups.
There was also a madeshift shower room and two toilets ( one indian style and one english toilet).
When we reached there at approximately 5 pm, we were promised to be offered snacks and tea on arrival. but, that was not ready. We only received refreshments by 6 ish pm. The khanda bhajiyas were yum and so was the lemongrass chai. I am not a chai person, but I quite enjoyed the tea,
After satiating our hunger, we went for a dip in the lake. it was #AMAZE!! It was cool, refreshing and a natural infinity pool. It was just unreal. It was a swimming pool amidst the natural surroundings.
Later, we came back to the campsite, got changed into fresh clothes. By that time, night fell and the sky was a blanket of stars. Again, so pretty. Words cant describe it and I have no picture to justify it.
But we captured the sights in our memory as we lied down on the blankets and gazed at the stars. Yeah, and we are geniuses. We could spot the Orion's Belt, The Big Bear, MARS, Venus. Is anyone looking for an astronomer, I know exactly the person to recommend!:)For those who are familiar with Mumbai, it was exactly like going to Nehru Planetarium and watching the stars except this was real and very beautiful. Apparently we also did see a shooting star, I can never be sure of that. My mind is shifty!!
Yeah, so we were star struck by the universe for the longest time until we were disrupted by the barbecue sevices. I am a vegetarian. There was paneer ( cottage cheese) , capsicum, onion, tomato and potato. Paneer barbecued well, I found the veggies too raw to eat. My friends were non-vegetarians, so yes there was chicken!! and that barbecued well too.
It was an indian style barbecue on coal and sigdi. The good part was that we all got our individual burners to barbecue.
So, again the camp got delayed in serving us the barbecue. Basically everything was delayed.
To describe the demographics, the camp was attended by a mixed set of people. There were kids, adults, teenagers, couples, group of girls, group of boys, working people. Our sole purpose of camping was to enjoy the peace, tranquility and soak in the serenity of the nature. Alas, given the varied demographics, our mission was lost. Someone was playing and dancing on loud music , someone was bursting crackers, someone had carried laser lights reflecting on the trees, some were drinking and smoking. We only escaped the city to be lost in a city again. However, I was very much entertained by the music, the campfire, the people and jhingaat( POP Marathi song).
Following the barbecue, Dinner was served in due course. There was mutter paneer, roti, papad, salad, dal rice for the vegetarians and a chicken dish for the non-vegetarians.
We ended the night on a sugar high. It was a friend's birthday and we devoured the chocolate cake.
We happily crashed by 2.00 am. It was a long day! .
We were supposed to wake up early the next day and go for a swim. Ahhh! But it was a holiday, so we slept in. Got up and went for a stroll around the campsite. Took some pictures and then it became too hot to handle. So, we got back to the campsite and had a breakfast of poha and chai.
By 11 am we were ready to head back to Mumbai. With the help of an organizer we booked a cab. they booked it for us but we forgot to mention that it has to be an AC cab, Because now dont we expect such things now! Well, we had a free sauna drive down to the city with the heat beating down on us through the ride. Well we live for experiences, so this one was one too!!
Highlight of the trip : Birthday celebrations and devouring the VOGUE magazine. We be such girls! Honestly, you have to swim in the lake. It's the best !!
